Frequently Asked Questions
Naturally, you may have questions about shopping for a
bridal or formal gown. Here, we have answered our most
common questions. If you still have questions, please feel
free to call or e-mail us!

When should I begin to shop for my bridal gown?
Manufacturers vary, however we recommend starting out nine or ten
months before your wedding, especially if your gown is a special order.
In some cases, it can take up to six months for a gown to arrive, and
leaving time for any final alterations is always important.

Is it important to select my bridal gown first?
Absolutely! The bride's gown is the most important purchase in any
wedding. All of the additional wedding party attire should be chosen to
compliment the bride and her gown.

When should I select my bridesmaid's dresses?
Typically, selecting bridesmaid dresses six months or so before the
wedding is allows plenty of time for arrival and final alterations.

Do all of my bridesmaids need to be present to order?
No, assuming the style(s) and color(s) have been chosen. All we need
are measurements for each person. Having measurements done by a
professional is highly recommended to determine the appropriate size.
Using a professional is important as it can also help you save money on
final alterations.

Help! My wedding is almost here and I do not have a
dress! What should I do!
No problem! We have many gowns in stock, ready for purchase. In
house alteration services are also available, so your dress will be perfect
just for you.

Should I shop for my bridal gown alone?
If you are just starting to look at styles and collections, coming in alone
is just fine. It may also give you time to learn more about the shop and
what services we offer. Having friends and family shop with you can be
helpful, but can also be overwhelming, as too many opinions can be
frustrating and may conflict with your feelings. The most important
thing to remember is that it is
your wedding, and you should make the
choices that best suit the wedding you dream of.

Should I schedule an appointment to try on gowns?
While not always necessary, the advantage of scheduling an
appointment is that you will receive individual service from one
associate. This is even more beneficial during our busiest times. Feel
free to call and ask if appointments are recommended.

Should I buy a gown from an online retailer?
It is not something we typically recommend. Many times, the gown you
are buying online is a second hand or used gown, and many are sold in
bulk. Meeting with a professional bridal consultant takes much of the
risk out of your purchase. The manufacturers we choose offer custom
changes that are not available to everyone, only reputable bridal shops.
Additionally, professional measurements are crucial in ensuring your
gown is just right, as sizes can differ from company to company.

What if I have a limited budget?
We offer many sale items. Often, high quality, one of a kind gowns that
have been discontinued are marked down drastically. You may find an
exceptional gown at a much lower price than you might expect. Also,
ask about any discounts we might offer. Owner operated stores are at
times able to offer discounts on accessories and bridal party attire.

What should I look for in a bridal shop?
Certainly, a wide selection of gowns and attire is important. More
importantly though, look for a relaxing atmosphere, a shop where you
can get exactly what you want. Look for qualified, courteous, and
helpful consultants, who will help you all the way through the process
of selecting, purchasing, and altering your gown, with no pressure put
on you at any time. High pressure sales and impulse purchasing may
only lead to regret and even additional expense. Look for a shop that
offers services that meet your needs, such as layaway, alterations,
storage, and pressing/steaming. Finally, look for a shop that makes you
feel good about selecting a bridal gown...Suzannes's Bridal and Formal!
